Aloha Friday...save our schools

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day they take it easy, and look forward to the weekend.
So I thought that on Fridays I would and take it easy on the posting,as they do in Hawaii! Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
Oh, and don't forget to hean on over to Kailani and link up with the rest of us!
You will make some new bloggy friends too!!

My Question is:

What do you think of the education system in the United States?

In my opinion, the education system is seriously lacking in the U.S.  Not because we don't have outstanding teachers and excellent schools...but because we are not supported and funded like we should be by the states.
Schools should be the LAST thing effected by this economy...to read more about my feelings on this topic...{click here}

I would love to hear your opinions on what we can do to ensure that our children, the next generations, our countries next decision makers...
are protected and receive the funding they SO deserve!!

  3. Wow, I thought it was supposed to be a simple questions! LOL Just Kidding :-)

Definitely underfunded, but I do wish I would see better teachers too. I know there are many many outstanding ones out there, but I did think it was sad when many people I knew became teachers and they were horrible in the subjects they taught our youngest kiddos.

Education needs to be a priority.

  4. Thanks for visiting my aloha friday post. :) Oh, you have a much harder question. I really have no clue about how much or how little schools are funded these days but find it interesting that private schools can churn out some kids with serious scholarships and a much much higher percentage of graduates than public schools. Is it the money? I hear of private schools just getting by too economically so not sure if that is it. Is it parental involvement? sure. If I'm not being encouraged by the ones that are "suppose" to love me the most, my chances of "making it" have to drastically drop. Either way, we're not planning to send our little one to public school here or in the other town we used to live in because of the opportunities are just not there compared to homeschool or private. :) whew! Didn't mean to take up so much space!!!!

  5. I agree, I think the school system in america needs some extra help. I think the government needs to stop bailing out some companies and start bailing out our school system.

  7. You bring up SUCH an interesting topic! My husband and I are the product of public schools, and are sending our kids to public school.

Part of me thinks there is underfunding (particularly in the way of teacher salaries...NO job other than doctors and ministers deserve more in my eyes), but I also see gross mis-spending of the funds allocated.

When I was young, textbooks were passed along from year to year. I was often the 7th or 8th student signing my name in a hardcover text. Our kids? HUGE glossy workbooks for many subjects, one time use only. Silly, if you ask me.

Washington DC (my former hometown) now spends more $ per capita on public education than nearly any other locale...to no perceptible improvement. They keep feeding $ in with NO improvement.

Think there needs to be more STRATEGIC handling of the money in play. ANd unfortunately money seems to be easier to spend than time. :(
