I can't believe I ate sushi...

On Saturday night we went out with a group of our really close friends. It was a big celebration for one of them and so we all decided to go to the Japanese Sushi restaurant Mikunis. For those of you who don't have those in your area...Mikunis is the bomb! One of the best sushi restaurants anywhere!

I should have prefaced this by letting you know that my idea of sushi up until this point were California rolls. So I knew that this restaurant would have something on the  menu that was cooked...so I would not have to eat raw fish...just the thought of it was making me woosy!

We were all sitting at the table and one of my best friends Melody was right next to me. She is very bossy and somewhat opinionated and hilarious...exactly like me! LOL Actually we are only 5 days apart...no wonder. When the first appetizer got there she grabbed it with chop sticks and shoved it in my mouth. It was delicious! Phew, thank God that was cooked! It was albacore with a bbq sauce...totally yummy!

Then they put another one of the appetizers on my plate and I loved it so I took a bite (with chop sticks I might add...to my surprise im pretty good) and after biting in to it I realized...IT WAS RAW! Because I had eaten the first bite though I knew that it was totally good so I kept eating it. Had it been a raw mammal...NO WAY...but being that it was fish, I was ok with it.

Then the meals started arriving and they were all forms of rolls, like California rolls, the difference was that they weren't cooked. I decided to go ahead and try it, what could it hurt right. I took a bite of what they call a BMW...holy crap...it was DELICIOUS!

Listen, I am a chubby girl and would like to consider my self well seasoned in the eating category. How haven't I ever had sushi. Thankfully I am very open minded and willing to take risks and try things I haven't before. This was off the hook...and you would never know without looking that it was raw.

So after trying several other delicious things...and finishing off my California rolls, the evening was coming to an end. The bill came and there were six of us on this one bill...remember having never had sushi at Mikunis before this was all new to me. It was $90 per couple!! Perhaps those of you out there that are ROLLING in the dough see nothing wrong with this...rolling in the dough or not...$90 was a LOT. Especially considering that we didn't have any drinks at the table that would have added in to it.

Will I do it again you ask...of course! Can't wait to take my kids back, it was amazing and I definitely don't want them to get to 33 years old before they realize how awesome sushi from a reputable restaurant is!

I may start my own show...you just never know!

First basketball game...

So the girls had their first basketball game on Saturday and it was HILARIOUS! Let's just say these girls would duck when the ball hits the rim. Having played basketball for 11 years and coached for about the same time, I have never coached this young of a team. My girls are in first grade and their team is a co-ed K-2 team.

I decided to not coach since it was my own girls...so I signed my husband up to coach and my best friend, Misty. Misty was the best female athlete in our entire school and not only received a scholarship for softball but for basketball as well. I am so excited that my girls are learning from her!

We had a couple of kids on the team that were really good! I am not sure if it was complete luck or if the 8 year old really did have a hook shot from the 3-point line that he couln't miss. But either way, it was good for our team...lol!

My girls had fun. They didn't especially like the idea that they didn't get the ball a lot so we now know what to work on with the girls. Perhaps a little dribbling, learning how to pass and how to catch passes and definitely how to rebound.

This league is a funny one...it's youth ball so you can ONLY practice with your team 30 minutes before each game...for example, if the game starts at 9:30pm, you start your practice at 9:00am. Totally crazy, I know.

This age group is just so darn funny because they literally don't know how to do ANYTHING. So they would actually take the ball and RUN...not dribble, half way down the court and shoot. I was crying I was laughing so hard.

We will have many fun stories to post throughout the next several weeks on what goes down on the basketball court.

My girls are playing basketball...

I played sports my whole life...basketball being my favorite. Tomorrow my 6 year old girls are going to start basketball!! I am not coaching them but I did sign my husband up and my best friend who was the MVP for the league every year that we played...they are the coaches.

This is a youth league so they don't even practice until 30 minutes before each game and games are only on Saturdays.

I can't wait to watch them tomorrow...I will keep you posted on how it goes. I'm so excited, I have waited my whole life for this!

Happy new year!

Aloha Friday...Events of 2009

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link over at Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

This week's question is:

What one news item stood out to you the most in 2009 and why?

Mine was Michael Jackson dying...I was in Detroit, MI that weekend and was being trained by Donald Trump and it was interesting to here his take on Michael Jackson and his life and the death.

Don't forget to comment...Happy 2010!!!

2009 in review...

Now that 2009 is coming to a close, it's time to reflect on all the things that we will remember from 2009...
  • I received an incredible promotion in my work from home company!
  • My girls ended Kindergarten and started 1st grade in different classes...that was an adjustment.
  • Our trip to Oregon to watch my nephew graduate high school with a full ride scholarship to OSU!!  Yay!
  • Got a commuter car
  • Took the girls to the water park a couple of times this summer.
  • Did two UBC (Ultimate Body Challenges) through Cardio kickboxing and dropped two full sizes.
  • Gained most of the above weight back...lol
  • Were blessed to buy a new house that we will be in for the rest of our lives.
  • Short sold my other house...
  • Went on an awesome Marriage Retreat through the church in Lake Tahoe
  • Read several self help books
  • Quit watching or listening to all forms of news!
  • Became a blogger...
  • Got on twitter
Those are just a few of the ones that I remember that were most important to us in 2009.  My family just sat down and wrote down all of our goals for 2010.  We are really excited for what it holds for us!
I thank God each and every day for all the blessings in our lives and am thankful the lessons that we were given this year.  We give all the glory to God and I am so thankful that my girls are already starting their spiritual walk.  Happy New Year to all and I wish you all the happiness and success that you strive for in 2010!

Worried about my boxer puppy...

Martini playing with her new presents on Christmas morning...

Our puppy is a 19 mo. old albino boxer puppy named Martini!  You see I have been a bartender since I was 21 and since I am not a big drinker, we have always named our dogs after alcohol.  It started with my black lab, Keager...then we had a Chocolate lab, Kahlua...and since they are no longer with us we have a white boxer named Martini!  Actually her official name is "Martini on the rocks" since white boxer puppies little lives used to be on the rocks.  Years ago boxer breeders would kill the white ones, they are kind of shunned from the breed so as not to mess up the markings of the traditional boxer.  Of course that's all I wanted was the white one.

We named her Martini because her eye reminded us of the olive...
it was her only marking when she was born!

Well here she is at 19 mo. and she is not looking as though she is really gaining weight.  She eats 3 cups of dry food that we mix with warm water in the morning and at night.  Her stool is fine, her coat looks great, her breath smells fine...she's just not really showing that she's gaining weight.  You can see her spine and her ribs...like the last 3.  So I am worried.

She's really NOT from the movie, "Poltergeist"...

I have looked up things online to find out if this was something that others have gone through and it seems that there are quite a few people that feel this way.  Considering that I had labs prior to our boxer, I am used to dogs getting thick around the middle.

What I am learning is that these are "athletic" dogs and they are supposed to be lean and mean...well not mean, but you know what I mean.  But I am still a bit worried about her not gaining weight.  She is a very calm boxer...of couse she still has high energy, but she has always been very mellow.

So today we are off to take her to the football field to run around for about a half an hour and help her to build a lot of muscle...maybe that will do it.

Any suggestions from you boxer people out there would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Random Tuesday Thoughts...crazy kids, too fat, 13 yr old blog

Whirlwind of holiday activity over the past two weeks..
May as well jump back in with some randomosity...

Is it just me or does everyone's kids go a little friggin crazy wild during this time of year.  My girls have always been so nice and pleasant to be around.  This year they are referred to as "a handful"...oh crap!  How do I get a handle on this.

*

I got a new look on my blog.  I was so tired of going to these other blogs that are almost too pretty to look at and then there was mine...so I got busy, quickly learned photoshop and made myself a banner and a button...go check it out and please comment so I know what more needs to be done.
P.S.  It's okay to be brutal!

*

My 13 yr old niece has a blog...I am hoping this will allow her to "journal" her thoughts and have parenting advice from all the moms out in blog land.  We will see how it goes.  Please check it out and follow her so she can get some "real" parenting advice from someone other than her immediate family.

*

Why is it when you're too fat everything you put on looks HORRIBLE and when you are thin you can make anything look good.  I'm on my way back to making everything look good!  New Year's resolution...here I come!

*

How do people get so many friggin followers?  I want advice on what fun stuff to do on my blog and how to make it a Top Blog!

*

How about buying Christmas gifts for your spouse...it never fails that on Black Friday I find a great deal, tell my husband that it was his Christmas gift to me and then by the time Christmas is here we are out of money and he does without once again...I have to go big for him in 2010.  :)

*

I have to get to work...thankfully I work from home!

Happy New Year to all!
